If Getting Healthy Is One of Your New Year’s Resolutions, Consider Adopting a Pet
Posted on 2011-01-20 10:08:07
Welcome to 2011! From all of us at Willard Veterinary Clinic, here’s hoping your New Year has gotten off to a great start.
If you’re like most people, you entered the New Year with a list of resolutions. According to 2011resolutions.org, three of the top five resolutions for 2011 were to stay fit and healthy, lose weight, and enjoy life to the fullest. If your resolutions are any combination of these, consider adopting a pet.
There are numerous articles available, like this one from the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal and this one from the Tucson Citizen, examining the link between owning a pet and living a healthier, happier life.
Adopting a dog, for example, can get you off the couch and out in the fresh air as you take it for walks. Cats have been shown to help ease arthritis pain – those who suffer from it are encouraged to stretch every time the cat does to keep the joints lubricated. Even sitting and watching a fish swim has been shown to be a mood enhancer.
Of course, pet adoption is an important responsibility and should only be done if it fits into your lifestyle. But if it does, adopt away, and see your New Year’s resolutions through to the end!
Naturally, if you adopt a pet, Willard Veterinary Clinic stands ready to serve you with vaccinations, immunizations, checkups, and any other pet-related need.
Make it a great year!
